If you would like to support the work that Oceti Wakan is doing, your donation would be greatly appreicated. Oceti Wakan is a 501 (c) (3) federally recognized non-profit organization located on the Pine Ridge Reservation created to help preserve the Lakota culture and language and begin the healing of the people. Along with the materials that Petaga Yuaha Mani and Zintkala Oyate have created to help understand the Lakota culture from a Spotted Eagle view, we hope to instill the desire to "bring the people back to themselves as they were created by the Great Mystery." We believe this is a big step to begin the healing process. Oceti Wakan has created many books, CDs, and curriculums to assist students and parents in learning the Lakota language and help the Lakota culture to grow stronger. We have worked with many of the schools on our reservations and others.
At the heart of our vision of Oceti Wakan is a Ceremonial/Educational Center to reinforce culturual beliefs, hold healing ceremonies, sweat lodges, language classes, children's classes on language, virtues and values, parenting classes, prevention classes, drum groups, etc. All of these will help create a stronger Lakota community. Donations will certainly help this project become a reality.
Oceti Wakan has successfully created some small social and economic development projects. We hope to do much more in the future as lack of jobs is certainly one of the great problems facing the people here who have an average yearly income of about $3,000 annually. Your donations would make more of this possible.
