~ Intensive
TEACHER'S WORKSHOP for implementing our curriculum,
'Learning Prevention Using Lakota Values.'
This is a cultural competent
life skills course. The course increases student knowledge of the
cycle of addiction and includes factual information on drugs
and alcohol. Students develop tools and skills that can assist them
in making healthy choices. Cynthia L. Catches, the developer of the
curriculum and workbooks facilitates these workshops. We are in the
process of trying to create a University course for continuing education
credits for teachers taking the course. A TEACHER'S WORKBOOK
is also available which contains lesson plans, materials, and
other helpful items.
~ Intensive PARENT'S WORKSHOPS
The
parents' handbook has been developed for the parents of the children
using our prevention curriculum and includes tools for prevention,
character development and parenting skills development. Alcoholism,
drug abuse and addiction are a "family illness" so we highly recommend
parent - community involvement.
~ Lectures and workshops
on the Seven Sacred Rites and other Lakota
subjects are available upon request to Zintkala Oyate.
